As part of their visit to the UK in June 2007, the YCNI recently played host to a high level delegation from Israel, with representation drawn from the Israel Federation of Community Centres, the Ministry of Education, and Local Municipalities.
The delegates specifically requested to come to Northern Ireland to observe and learn more about best practice in relation to working with young people with special needs, within the non-formal education sector.
The study visit was highly successful and included meetings with young people and staff members from the RNIB (Eye Matters Youth Group), Tor Bank School, the Belfast Activity Centre, Phab Inclusion Matters, the Department of Education, SEELB and the YCNI. Potential partnerships have already emerged from this short study visit and a number of options for future collaboration have already been identified. A reciprocal leg of this visit will take place later in the year, during which delegates from Northern Ireland will have the chance to travel to Israel.
