GEOMAPPING YOUTH SERVICE PROVISION IN NORTHERN IRELAND
The Youth Council is currently carrying out an analysis of Youth Service provision in Northern Ireland by mapping the current geographical distribution of voluntary and statutory youth organisations.
With the assistance of youth service departments from the five Education and Library Boards, the Geomapping project will collect data pertaining to every registered youth group in Northern Ireland. Data will include number, ages, and gender of youth service members, location of group, and numbers/type of staffing. This data will be processed by Geomapping computer software so that the information can be displayed on a series of thematic maps.
This form of data portrayal and analysis is becoming increasingly recognised as a powerful and valuable tool for decision making and resource allocation. The maps produced by the software is contained in layers so that Youth Service data can be integrated with socio-economic and demographic data, so enabling youth service providers to make decisions regarding the future allocation of resources.
