This publication provides a rationale for the development of a Participation Network in Northern Ireland. The aim of the study was to explore the feasibility of establishing a network of children and youth providers, which would support and build capacity within the public sector to involve children and young people in a more strategic way. The study entailed interviews and focus groups with a range of stakeholders : young people, public authorities, Departmental representatives, and child and youth providers.
Following publication of Turning up the Sound, funding was been secured from the Children and Young Peoples Unit (OFMDFM) to support a two year pilot of the Participation Network. The Network will be housed at Children in Northern Ireland, and is steered by a partnership of child and youth providers across the statutory and voluntary sectors.
