State of the Arts

DVD and Report

Young People are at the heart of creativity in Northern Ireland today and it is essential that their views are taken into account.

Young Peoples engagement and understanding of the arts is as wide and varied as the arts themselves. Young People themselves must be key stakeholders in the Arts.

Any discussion of Young Peoples participation in the Arts has to start from the needs and experiences of Young People today and how they engage with the arts.

The Arts Council and Youth Council in partnership with Cathedral Quarter Arts Festival and WheelWorks carried out a series of consultations before and during the 2006 Cathedral Quarter Arts Festival with Young People from across Northern Ireland. The aim of the consultation and resulting PDF Report and Documentary Film is to make a positive contribution to ensuring the voices of Young People are heard and their opinions and experiences used to inform future developments in relation to Arts programming for Young People.
