INVESTING IN YOUTH WORK EVENT

The Youth Council for Northern Ireland hosted a major event on 12 November 2007 in Queens University Belfast, - 'Investing in Youth Work'.

The purpose of the event was to raise the profile and promote the value and effectiveness of youth work.

Over 70 people attended from a wide range of sectors, including the political, private, public and charitable.

The highlight of the evening were the inputs given by Youth Workers and Young People from both the voluntary and statutory sector, who spoke of their own experiences of how they benefited from various youth work programmes eg. Participation of young people, International exchanges, Training programmes, Arts programmes etc.

The key note speaker was Mr Tom Wylie recently retired Chief Executive of the National Youth Agency.  He highlighted the strength and quality of the Northern Ireland Youth Service as demonstrated by the variety of inputs and challenged all agencies represented to further invest in Youth Work in Northern Ireland.
