INNOVATION AWARD

Newtownabbey Youth Council
WINNER
Newtownabbey Youth Council
(Youth Information Kiosk)

Providing reliable and up to date information for young people was the aim of the Newtownabbey Youth Council. To achieve this aim the young people came up with the idea of devising a Youth Information Kiosk which provides information that young people want to know about; uses interactive ways to relay this information, and is regularly updated. This Kiosk has been 'on tour' to youth clubs in the Newtownabbey area.

RUNNER UP
Eden Place Arts Centre – Girls Just Want to have Fun (photography project)
Photography was the way in which a group of young women (14-17 yrs) from 'Children in Crossfire' chose to look at the lives of women from other countries as well as themselves. They developed new skills, improved their own confidence and self esteem, and produced a photographic display for the new youth wing of their youth club.

RUNNER UP
Ards Arena - UB 40 Club
The UB 40 Club provides support for young unemployed people (16-25 yrs) in Newtownards where young people can gain new skills, link into job opportunities and work to enhance their qualifications in ICT and Youth Work. There are also opportunities to develop new skills in creative arts through  DJ'in and graffiti art, and it was through developing these skills that the young people organised a fund raising event for children in Lesotho in South Africa.

Killyhommon P.S. Boho (Fermanagh) - Inspirational thoughts Diary 2009

Children from Killyhommon Primary School came up with an innovative way in which they motivate others and make a difference! These inspirational children (8-11 yrs) provided positive thoughts that were reproduced in a dairy which was then sold in their community. Not only was the diary designed by them and sold throughout the county, it also raised the amazing sum of £10,000 and the children were involved in deciding which charities should receive support. A similar event is planned for 2010.
