NORTHERN IRELAND YOUTH AWARDS 2009

PROMOTING HEALTH AWARD

Pennyburn Youth Club
WINNER
Pennyburn Youth Club - 'The Struggle'

This project has produced a very exciting new 'Board Game' that has been designed by a group of young people who felt that there was a lack of education and common sense around drugs and alcohol misuse. These young people gained funding from the Big Lottery and have developed every aspect of this game and have road tested it with many groups of young people. This will be a great resource for youth work and possibly schools.

RUNNER UP
Omagh Youth Centre - Strabane/Omagh Anti-bullying Project
Recognising and dealing with bullying behaviour was the health issue that young people from three youth clubs in the Strabane and Omagh areas decided to tackle. Twelve young people participated in the workshops increasing their own skills and understanding and as a result being able to enhance or adjust the current anti-bullying policies in their own youth clubs. They will also take their learning back to family and friends and inspire others to 'stamp out' bullying.
