NORTHERN IRELAND YOUTH AWARDS 2010

PROMOTING HEALTH AWARD

Limavady Youth Office - Winner of the Promoting Health Award for their 'High Sur' project
Their project was a peer-led programme involving seven young people who trained as peer educators and delivered training to 40 young people from Limavady and Rural Foyle through a number of workshops.  The young people planned, delivered and evaluated the project from beginning to end.

Brooklands Youth Centre from Dundonald was named runner up for their 'Soup and A Bap Project'.

The project was aimed at educating young people in how to create a nutritious and economical range of recipes.  The programme includes shopping for ingredients, cooking and research into ingredients.

Carrickfergus Junior Gateway Club : runner-up for their 'Healthy Living Project'
The Club's project was broken into three sections looking at food and drink, cookery and exercise.  As Gateway is a club for children and young people with learning disabilities, it was important that each person was made to feel comfortable and that is would be a positive, enjoyable experience.

Youth Action were named runner up for their EVA project
EVA was an issue based theatre performance. The play provided an insight into the issue of mental health and young adults. Eva is the central character who comes face –to-face with her emotions and tries to understand what they are saying and how they affect her.
