NORTHERN IRELAND YOUTH AWARDS 2010

VOLUNTEERING AWARD

WINNER : Volunteer Award (Young Person)
Elezabath Mathew

Elezabath is a member of the Fermanagh Youth Council and was nominated by two of her peers, not only for her contribution to the Youth Council, but also for her involvement in organisations such as the Red Cross and the Duke of Edinburgh scheme.  She has also raised money for Haiti and Intercultural events.

WINNER : Volunteer Award (Adult)
Edward Neeson


Eddie has volunteered in St Michael’s Youth Club, Finaghy,for around 40 years.  He began his work during the 'troubles' in his own words to 'keep the young people off the streets'.  He has continued to contribute to helping young people to reach their goals.

Pennyburn Youth Club's Michael Beeton was named runner-up (young person category)
Michael is a volunteer in the Youth Club and has been involved in teaching young people the guitar and has completed his bronze, silver and XL awards, as well as being a representative on the local Youth Council.


Julie Gibson from Charter Youth Club & Kite Project was named runner up (adult category)
Julie has been volunteering for the last five years in Charter Youth Club in Sandy Row.  This year, Julie set up a young women's sexual health awareness project and organised a residential with virtual babies. 

Lindon McCullough was named runner up (young person category)
Lindon has been the mainstay of the Kilcooley Area Project.  He has completed his OCN Leadership in Youth Work and is the secretary of the North Down Youth Forum.



John Hanna from Downpatrick Venture Scouts was named runner up (adult category)
John has been a volunteer in Downpatrick Scout Group for more than 20 years.  John is the Venture Scout co-ordinator. He has completed leadership training with the Scout movement and the SEELB.
