CONTINUING PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT (CPD)
SUPPORT SCHEME 2010/11

In-Service CPD training courses for which funding may be available generally fall into three broad categories:

Short courses designed to cater for immediate needs and provided at local level.
Courses linking theory to practice and meeting the criteria for national validation.
Courses with a more academic emphasis leading to degrees or postgraduate qualification.

Training needs should be jointly identified by the applicant and his/her employer and should enhance the youth worker's performance in specific areas of practice and contribute to their personal and career development.

Eligibility

To be eligible for support:

a 
You must be a professionally qualified youth worker in accordance with JNC conditions or equivalent.
b
you must be currently employed in a full-time capacity in a front line youth work post  with an organisation whose primary purpose is the personal and social development of young people. Furthermore, your employing organisation must be able to demonstrate that they work in accordance with the definition, values and functional domains of youth work as espoused by the National Occupational Standards for Youth Work.    
The following evidence must be produced to support claims of the above: (this is not applicable to statutory sector bodies)

The Organisation must have a Constitution;

The Organisation must deliver a youth work curriculum;

The Organisation should be able to demonstrate the active participation of young people in the management and delivery of its programmes;

The Organisation must operate a Child Protection Policy;

The Organisation must have a bank account in the Organisation’s name;

The Organisation must have annual audited accounts;

The Organisation must have a Staff Development Policy;

The Organisation must have policies in line with legislative requirements on Health and Safety and Equal Opportunities;

The Organisation must have appropriate insurance cover for all aspects of its operations.
c    
it is desirable that you have a minimum of 1 year’s post qualifying experience as a youth work practitioner prior to the commencement of the proposed course;
d  
that the course you are applying for meets nationally recognised standards as set by regulatory, academic or professional bodies and provide formal accreditation.

The applicant must apply:
to their employer for release
 
to the Department of Education, through the Youth Council to secure funding
 
to the course providing institution for admission.
