group work in a youth work context LEVEL 3

The Group Work in a Youth Work Context unit is open to experienced youth support workers and professional youth workers who wish to build their capacity in the area of group work.

Learners will be expected to have a minimum of one year’s experience working with young people in a youth work setting and to have undergone basic youth work training such as the Youth Work Training Board's Introduction to Youth Work and Programme Development units.

The Group Work in a Youth Work Context unit is a part-time, NOCN nationally recognised credit-based Qualification, which consists of approximately 36 hours of actual tutor/participant contact time.

In addition, learners will be expected to spend approximately 18 hours working with young people facilitating group work sessions over the duration of the course.

Further time beyond this will need to be spent completing associated non-contact tasks (eg, preparation of sessions, completing evaluation reports, personal reflection evidence sheets, etc). This will amount to approximately 36 hours.

All learners will be expected to complete a Personal Reflection Evidence Sheet for each Learning Outcome.

This programme consists of one Unit and contains nine Learning Outcomes.

These are further sub-divided into a series of tasks that they should be able to do, which are listed as Criteria for Assessment.

Learners who successfully show they have achieved the Learning Outcomes will be awarded an OCN NI Certificate in the Training for Youth Work Programme, Level 3 Group Work in a Youth Work Context Unit.
